No, there were many more connections involving Firefox and/or Polipo. 
All in state "Connected".

I guess I would have to define those exceptions using a PAC file?
I also noticed that the only proxy-related timeout I can find in Firefox' config only works if Firefox got its proxy configuration from a PAC file.
So it seems I have to learn to write one ;-)
