[Pound Mailing List] Timeout HTTP Status Code

Hi,

after hunting around for some time I found that pound was timing out on one of our backends.

Pound returned:

HTTP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 58
Expires: now
Pragma: no-cache
Cache-control: no-cache,no-store

An internal server error occurred. Please try again later.


I have two suggestions regarding the reply which would have made it much easier to identify the source:

- The HTTP Status code 504 Gateway Timeout could be more informative here (see http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html).
- A header "server: pound" would point straight to the source of the matter.

I am not sure what implications such changes would have on existing installations which might rely on the 500.

Any opinions?
