[Pound Mailing List] cpu load issues still a issue?

Hi, 

we stumbled over this Article form 2008: http://blog.emmettshear.com/post/2008/03/03/Dont-use-Pound-for-load-balancing
It says that the CPU Load of pound is a real problem. I never had those problems back in 200x, what i have was RAM issues. 
Can anyone tell me if this is real and how this was fixed?
