$ ulimit -n 1024 But I think the issue was due to the changes in the threading model from 2.5 to 2.6+. A nice design would be a floor and ceiling model that allow the number of threads in the thread pool to be the floor value and for the system to dynamically add thread until the ceiling is reached.
