I've just come across a rather odd blocking rule in default.action under the web bug section: /js/slider\.js

Thinking this seemed a rather odd rule I checked my logs and found no legitimate hits and quite a few false positives, examples such as:
False positives:
http://www.apponic.com/js/slider.js
http://www.velovision.com/js/slider.js
http://www.ovt.com/js/slider.js

Probably false positives:
http://maps.level3.com/js/slider.js

Looking at the context in default.action I wonder if it's been included by mistake at some point, as it has no comment or examples around it, and looks like it causes more problems than it solves.

Thanks for the report, I removed the pattern like you suggested.

Note that some comments are only in the master file and don't make it into
default.action:

In this case the origin of the patterns seems to be a request you filed in
2006 whose pattern was made more generic before being committed:
