plugin code changes merged from HEAD into PYBLOSXOM_1_2

Ok,

I've merged the changes from HEAD into PYBLOSXOM_1_2.  The plugins in 
the
PYBLOSXOM_1_2 branch should now be consistent enough to build a 
contributed
plugins pack.
