Oh, whoops. I copied what the docutils documentation had verbatim and meant to go back and think about it, but then didn't. Here's what's on my brain. When I did the PyBlosxom manual, I had it under the GNU FDL and copyrighted to me. I wanted to maintain editorial control over the manual and figured this was a good way to enforce that. However the information in the manual isn't anything wildly exciting. We're maintaining the manual in SVN with the rest of the project--so we already maintain an editorial step that way. I'm not sure it makes sense to lock it down. I've been watching what some folks are doing with the Python documentation and providing it in different forms allowing better access and better findability (that's not a word--sorry about that). Putting the content in the public domain and allowing mash-up abilities to people allows people to do things with our documentation that will benefit the community without us getting in the way. Going back to your question, I don't know what the answer is. The MIT license is pretty hands-off. I don't know too many documentation licenses. We could use a creative commons license--I'm sure one of the combinations would match the MIT license. That's everything I'm thinking or have thought.
