Oh whoops--I didn't mean to suggest we do %()...  I was just pointing
out that Python uses () for its string formatting.

The current options for syntax are:

   $(foo)   parentheses
   ${foo}   curly braces

Currently it's coded with parentheses, but it can very easily be changed.
