I do my drafts as .txt- files.

Sounds like you want to build a module to do this.  There's a filter 
module (which I use) which keeps things out of the file_list except when 
they're explicitly asked for.  I use it for my link blog.  So, I think 
starting with that and throwing on some kind of authentication code might 
help.
