$path not working

Hi,

I migrated my site to 1.3.2 and found that $path, which I use as
category, is not working in certain cases, specifically when I visit
a post or a category directly.

It works when I just go to the main page: http://blog.madduck.net/,
e.g.:

   Wed, 10 May 2006 14:30 | debian | Permalink
                            ^^^^^^

But click on the debian category, and the byline of the posts will
become:

   Wed, 10 May 2006 14:30 | | Permalink

which is the same as if surfed there by permalink.

If I use a date link (http://blog.madduck.net/2006/05/10), the
category is back, but it now has a leading slash.

I get the same behaviour if I use further subdirectories
(http://blog.madduck.net/travel/2006-southeastasia).

What gives? Is it just me or does this smell like a bug?

Cheers,

(Please CC me on replies)
