Adding title to head template for perma links

Hi,

I would like the title of the entry to display when viewing a permalink. 
For instance when viewing: http://baus.net/identity-rabbit-hole I would
like the HTML title to show "The Web 2.0 identity rabbit hole."  But
$title is only available for story templates.

Maybe there is already a work around.  If not a solution might be to have
$title resolve to an empty string in head templates when not viewing a
permalink, but resolve to the article title when viewing a permalink.

Is anybody else interested in this functionality? If so I might try to put
a patch together.
