Ok,

I changed get to GET in the telnet session, and calling via the Apache  
rewrite (which works for viewing the posts, comments, trackbacks, etc)  
returns a 404 error. Using GET  
http://hostname/cgi-bin/pyblosxom/pyblosxom.cgi?/RPC returns the usual  
html one would get from normal browsing to the site.
