Some thoughts and questions about pyblosxom

Having started several threads here (and got lots of useful answers,
thank you!) I'll try and explain a little further what I'm trying to
get out of pyblosxom.

I have been searching for a while for some sort of program, utility,
call it what you will that would help me enter and maintain all sorts
of odds and ends of information.  These range from notes on my Linux
Slackware configuration (i.e. installation problems, workarounds,
etc.) to the maintenance schedule for my motorbike.

Then to add an extra dimension I was made redundant a few weeks ago
(as I'm 60 it's much less of an issue that it might have been) so I
thought that maybe a weblog would be a useful way of recording the
resulting job (or other life route) search.

To date the best tool I had found for the information gathering was
rest2web which takes a hierachy of reStructured Text files and creates
a web site from them.  It does/did most of what I wanted but I had a
couple of issues with it:-

    It requires to be run, i.e. a 'compile' to create the HTML from
    the rst files. (much like pybosxom creating static HTML)

    There does need to be a certain amount of 'superstructure' in the
    rst file for it to work, i.e. they're not totally unadulterated
    reStructured Text.

I had looked at a few blog tools before but the new impetus in this
direction meant that I took a harder look and, as a result, I came
across pyblosxom.  It's automatically on my shortlist because it's
written in Python and supports reStructured Text.

When I found what it actually did, quite similar in many ways to
what rest2web does but *without* the 'compile', it quickly became
nearly the ideal tool for what I want.

So where is all this rambling taking us?  Well nowhere very exciting
really, I just wanted to explain why I'm here, there is one resulting
question/thought though....

How easy would it be to produce (or make possible in pyblosxom) a tool
which works like pyblosxom but isn't a time oriented blog?  I.e. what
I really, really want is something that simply takes a hierarchy of
files (text, rst, whatever) and presents them as an identical hierachy
of HTML on the web.  Pyblosxom very nearly does this as it is, the
only difference is that it presents separate text files as a single
HTML page with the files separated on a time basis.  All I want to do
is (for example) :-

    Somewhere down the hierarchy there is a directory motorbikes, in
    that directory there are a number of files:-

        luggage.txt
        zzr1200info.txt
        lifts.txt
        zzr1200.pdf
        zzr1200service.txt

    With the "similar to pyblosxom" tool running you can navigate with
    your browser to the motorbikes directory and you see links to the
    above files.  You click on the links and they open as HTML
    generated the pyblosxom way.  (OK, the PDF file is different)

Pyblosxom gets very close to this using the pycategories.py plugin.
I'm thinking I might try modifying the code to take me the final step.
The only thing I'm wondering is if there are already some plugins
which have effectively done it already.
