I thought both of these topics were covered in the manual, but it turns out that they're in SVN but haven't made it to the web-site yet. Sorry about that. You can read the version of the manual we're working on now here: http://pyblosxom.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/pyblosxom/trunk/pyblosxom/docs/ The file "flavours_and_templates.txt" is the new version of the Flavours chapter. The new version also covers the syntax for template variables. I just added a section on variables created from entry metadata, too. See if that version is clearer.
