Configurable location for individual posts

I like the date-based archives (yyyy/ and yyyy/mm/) but also would
like the path to individual posts to be in the form

    http://url.com/yyyy/mm/story.html

Is it feasible to add a config var for where individual posts will be
rendered? The options that make sense to me are:

1. category: http://url.com/category/story.html (current behavior)
2. day: http://url.com/yyyy/mm/dd/story.html
3. month: http://url.com/yyyy/mm/story.html (my preference)
4. year: http://url.com/yyyy/story.html
5. root: http://url.com/story.html

I realize that enabling this will lead to conflicts when posts in
different categories have the same file name. For example, a/z.txt and
b/z.txt could both result in yyyy/mm/z.txt. That's a risk the user
would need to be aware of when enabling this feature.

So, is it feasible? Is anyone interested besides me?
