It's vile/xvile, a vi clone with emacs aspirations.  I've used it for
many years now on Solaris, Linux and MS.  Having the same editor
everywhere is a big plus for me and as, in addition, it's mostly a
superset of what a default vi does I can 'degrade gracefully' to using
vi when necessary!  :-)

I originally started using it because it has a 'server' mode like
gnuclient (is that the right name?) for Emacs which allows it to be
used with our CM system at work.  You double-click on a file in the CM
system and (if you have it set up right) the file gets loaded into a
running copy of xvile.

It has a small but active following and the current project of the
major maintainer is to make it UTF-8 aware.
