date_head, date_foot flavour files

Hi there,

I'm just getting my 'blog off the ground. I've comfortably used the 
head, story and foot flavour files, but not had any success with 
date_head and date_foot. The wiki doesn't indicate any special 
configuration changes are required for this functionality.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get these files to work?
