Taxonomies and Stable URIs

Recently, there's been much discussion on "taxonomies" and I'm using one myself but finding that once I start using it, I'm stuck. It's difficult to reorganize without breaking my permalinks [1]. It it possible to use a date based URI as the permalink, will that also work with trackbacks and comments?
