Speaking for myself, the problem is that the strengths of blosxom for
one audience:

  - the simple text-file formats
  - the 'simple' publishing model (create a file)
  - configuration through config.py

make it a harder to build up a different set of features, such as
building a more "naive user" MT/typepad-like user experience.

Things like xml-rpc help w/ the 'through-the-web' wysiwyg markup, but
they don't really give you through-the-web configuration, and don't
really do any of the other more advanced features, like
draft/published, extended entry support, etc. (or at least not as far
as I know!)  Also, while I think that supporting the APIs is great,
from a user experience point of view having to install client tools is
a pain in many contexts (especially when compared with 'all-in-one'
systems).

Again, think of Zope vs. Plone.  Zope does it all, but as far as I can
tell, Plone makes it more accessible to a broader set of users.  I
think the same dichotomy applies here, and the same synergies can
apply.
