From my "not a good enough programer to help" point of view. At 16:46 +0800 18/03/2003, in message [pyblosxom-users] Opinion on pyblosxom, wari-Yu9E6tdDWSZWk0Htik3J/[email protected] wrote: >FYI, Here's an email which I replied to that's in the blosxom mailing >list, with the best of my knowledge on pyblosxom (at least I think so). This email, and your answer raise a nice set of questions. The main one being the eternal compatible debate. From my point of view, and to make it short: I think that it is interesting to have compatible products in an area like this one. And I think that ideally, compatibility has to be defined by a clear set of items. There could be a meeting point for the developers of the various Blosxom flavors. So that these issues can be openly discussed and some basic definitions agreed on. Data level A basic set of rules allowing for one to be able to switch engine on the same dataset with the minimum problem. - Text files - html files - database for comments Then, each developer is free to make a better engine allowing more functionality. Protocol level A set of minimum requirement for the implemented protocols - TrackBack - PingBack - RSS format.... This is more on the field of the blogs tools at large than on the Blosxom level. >Right now, all of us are a different animal with different focus and >theme. > > * Pyblosxom is the first to have plugins (compared with blosxom and > some others except PHosxom), > *** the first to come out with text formatting options, > * the first to come out with a different date scheme, > *** the first to come out with flavour overrides based on the directory > you are in, > *** the first to allow different types of files to render, > * the first to have caching of entry, > *** the first to allow user defined metadata in entries, > * and the first with XMLRPC services. I'd rather think of it as innovation :) There are some features I don't know in this list ;-) With some short explanations, I would be pleased to document the ones I don't know. I am currently adding to the faq I started some sample definition for TrackBack and PingBack, I would be pleased to document the marked *** points above wich I did not knew off until now. And, by the way, I'd like to know how to setup posting through web browser. I think that documentation allow more users to come in and more users mean more developpers (and the other way as well ;-) -- Hofstadter's Law : It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Does your code think in ink?
