OpenSearch is nice and a good starting point, but unfortunately it is
kind of in limbo (everything is undated, some parts are in draft
status), and the extension model to add some stuff yourself is
underspecified. and then it's outdated in various ways, for example it
defines its own URI template format, which by now you really would want
to substitute with the standardized form.

so while there is useful stuff in OpenSearch and it's implemented in
various places, it's poorly maintained and i still hope that a9 or
amazon will fix that at some point in time. we are also considering
using it, in spite of these issues, but for those looking at it, it's
important to know that there are some concerns about the spec.

cheers,

dret.
