there's little point to argue about what the spec allows. it is what it
is. we could have a chat why it has been created that way, but that's
purely academic.

that would not be a good sign for your API. when using link relations,
keep the following in mind:
- reuse existing link relations when possible, so that developers can
reuse their understanding of them in the context of your API.
- link relations should not identify *what* you're linking to. that's
one of the most common mistakes in REST design. they should identify
*why* you might want to follow a certain link in its given context.
following these two recommendations, your link relations should change
quite a bit, and you'll see that there is a big difference in the
hypermedia design itself (which establishes the "context model" through
which clients navigate), and the resources in one instance of that
design (which are the concrete resources that a client is navigating).
