One advantage of establishing a standard for executable business processes
(as opposed to just interface-based abstract ones) is that it would make it
possible to create a new business of manufacturing and distributing
prepackaged business processes. In this scenario, companies with expertise
in defining business processes for particular vertical industries can create
standard-based prepackaged business processes that other companies can
acquire and deploy within their systems (hopefully with minimum or no
modifications at all). This would allow companies to incorporate industry
best practices while reducing cost, complexity, and time to deployment (no
need to reinvent the wheel every time a new process needs to be created).
Depending on the success of this approach, open source code could also
become available based on this standardized language and infrastructure for
executable business processes creation.
