[Sigia-l] Nationwide search for Director Interaction Design-Irvine CA (some relo assist offered)

My client is the gold standard (or should I say “Blue”) for automobile
valuation and all things relating to the world of automotive.  They have
been in business since the late 1920’s and have re-invented themselves
several times over to maintain their lead in the space they created.  The
time has come again for them to evolve into the industry leader that has
always set them apart and above the competition.  

 

Currently, they have a pressing need for a Director of Interaction Design.
This role is a high priority position as it will be integral in leading a
site redesign that accompanies a re-branding and re-strategizing effort that
will impact their online presence and bottom line.  The person that assumes
this role needs to have experience working on heavily trafficked marketing
sites where revenue is generated through online advertisements.  

 

Initially, this position was a little different and therefore created a
mis-impression of the company and their focus during the clarification
process.  The buzz went something like this: 
o They don't really know what they are looking for 
o It is a highly political environment 
o It can be a difficult place to be successful – especially for designers
trying to sell through new concepts 

But there have been important and significant positive changes to the role
and their process of hiring. 

So, what's new this time around? Check it out: 
o When this position was initially listed over a year ago my client was
looking to fill a manager role -> supporting the requests of a sales driven
culture 
o Due to economic cut-backs, they exercised fiscal responsibility and put
hiring on hold, including this position, for a little over 6 months 
o During this time my client took a hard look at the trajectory of their
brand and products and realized that some serious changes were in order 
o These changes included solid financial and organizational investments in
the development of a product driven culture, firmly rooted in user centered
design methodologies 
o As a result, this was one of the first positions reopened and the role has
been elevated

As their Director of ID you will be integral in reshaping their strategy to
focus on the future of consumer needs in the automotive marketplace and
aligning their brand and products to capitalize on the strength of their
current position. 
§ Product Focused: They are now implementing a product driven culture with
strong leads in key decision-making roles. 
§ Customer Focused: User centered design methodologies are a key part of
their product development process and investing in a comprehensive look at
user needs is a central focus. 
§ Technology focused: They are a scrum/agile shop that utilizes the latest
in Microsoft technologies. 
§ Investing in the Future: They are making substantial financial investments
in the development of brand strategy, product strategy and product
development. This role will be key to that process! 

This role with have dynamic ability to influence change: 
o This right candidate will play a heavy role in the future strategy of my
client as well as be a key part of bringing these changes to fruition. 
o Opportunities to be able to make this level of contribution at a company
with this level of brand recognition are rare – this is a great challenge
with tremendous resume building potential. 

As an innovator in their space for decades, my client created their space
but what I find most impressive about this brand is that they continue to
reinvent themselves, know when they are going down the wrong path and are
able to adjust their course as well as say, oops...wrong direction. Let's
