But what does this mean to a UE Researcher? My client believes that a fundamental part of their success derives from understanding the end-user. This has a direct link to the commercial focus of the business. Everybody knows that if high-tech brands fail to continuously invest in both product and promotion they are left behind. By investing continuously in research & development, my client aims to use behavioural research to form part of their competitive advantage in designing products for users in their market. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, to design and conduct user behaviour research to inform interface design and develop a deep understanding of user behaviour and behavioural trends. The purpose of the role will be in part to increase the profile and understanding of User Centred Design and usability. You will employ qualitative and quantitative research methods and consider the benefits and its application within the organisation. You will define User Research and Usability Strategy within the context of the team and this will feed through to the overall strategic vision of the business. More specifically, my client has provided an outline of the essential skills required. · BA or MA in Psychology, Human Factors, Ergonomics, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Experimental Design or related degree. · Minimum 4-6 years hands-on experience in an interface design context with sound knowledge of design process. · Experience of working within large corporations or design consultancies. · Must demonstrate deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative research techniques. · Experience designing, conducting and analysing results from usability tests. · Experience of employing UCD approaches and techniques. · Experience in Human Factors, field observations and ethnographic research. · Demonstrate an understanding of validity in research contexts. · Demonstrate an understanding of how interaction design, graphics and technology work. · Ability to work and communicate with other design and business functions in the most effective way. · Excellent presentation and communication skills and understanding of audience needs. · Demonstrate ability to produce clear and intelligent research results. · Have a flexible an innovative approach. · Design and conduct usability expert reviews. · Design and conduct usability test with team members. · Ensure research results are analyzed and synthesized to provide actionable findings for designers. · Monitor and support implementation of recommendations from research. · Subcontract and manage third parties in designing and executing user research and usability testing. · Work to increase positive usability impact of integration of new technologies to the products. · Act as user advocate on design projects.
