Getting a 500 Servlet Exception when bring up sitemesh-- any help ?

Seems the black magic of "getting the answer right after you post the question" worked.

I had the decorators.xml file in /WEB-INF/classes and not /WEB-INF

hopefully no one has spent any time on this.
