How to Integrate with PHP or external java webapp

Rex, Thank a lot for posting   but
I know  what happens in sitemesh as you say.

Browser 
       -> 1. HTTP request  
                     -> 2. sitemesh  servlet filter do something 
                                                                    -->  3.target jave webapp
                                                          <-  4.  HTTP response 
            <- 5. servelet filter of sitemesh decorates response
Broswer 

Then  I can imagine when the webapp is java base
because  all I have to do is put the sitemesh filter 
onto the web.xml of "the target webapp".Then sitemesh decorates the response.

But what if it is about PHP webapp or other ? They are not part of java webapp.
Sitemesh is servlet filter  ,which needs web.xml , which needs java-webapp,
So,How the PHP app or ASP app can be a part of java webapp?
How can we make the sitemesh servlet intercept the request or response of PHP?

Sitemesh can decorate any HTTP response with HTML but ,
I cannot make sitemesh intercept PHP req/res.

All I can imagin is use servlet-PHP bridge, serlvet-ASP brige , CGI servlet ..
and so on. Am I right? Then filter catch the req/res for PHP , CGI ,,, etc.

Any help will be appriciate. THanks
