NullPointer after upgrading to WW2.2

I made some progress on this issue, the NPE is thrown with this tag:

<%@ taglib uri="sitemesh-decorator" prefix="decorator" %>
<html>
<head>
<title><decorator:title default="MyTitle" /></title>

If my title is non-existent on my page, I get the above error. Any idea why this would happen using the latest version?
