Using Sitemesh Tags from a Veloticy Template

I have some custom panels that I developed using Sitemesh

I include them in my JSP using (for example):

<page:applyDecorator name="scrollPane">
    <page:param name="width">300</page:param>
    <page:param name="height">150</page:param>

    ....stuff to be in scroll pane....

</page:applyDecorator>

On a new project I was considering using Velocity as the UI rendering
mechanism and I was wondering if it was possible to use these prebuilt
panels from within a Velocity Template. I would not even mind (too much ;-))
If I had to rewrite the panels in Velocity. I just dont see anything that
leads me in the direction of this possiblity.
