Use of backup facility

Hello all,

Clicking on backup to file produces an am.pl file that is saved where you want. Is there a smart way of reloading the data included or is it just a case of
psql -d mybase -U adminaccnt < am.pl
??

There are the pg_dump & pg_dumpall alternative, but the dump files are enormous in comparison.
