One item to watch out for here would be VAT on expenses, might be
reclaimable.

If you just kick the expense this way, you might end up not getting the tax
included in your VAT reports and tax accounts.

Via AP module that would be almost automatic, if CoA and basics are entered
ok that is.

In Holland we consider it a major mistake reclaiming too little from the
taxman..

I'm glad that helped. In general, every transaction ends up in the G/L
...
eventually. However, there are the supplemental journals for Accounts
Receivable, Accounts Payable, etc. which hold transactions not yet
completed. Regardless, there's nothing at all wrong with direct postings to
the G/L.

Before I transitioned to SQL-Ledger, I used only a General Ledger and
maintained all the other journals on spreadsheets. So most of my bookkeeping
were direct G/L postings. PITA, but it worked.
