This is good but when you search by customer name, you
still have the "name" field as the clickable info, I
really wish the customer number was the clickable
field.

Personally, I am simply discarding the customer number
and using the customer name as the customer code. 
This is very unfortunate because:
1- customer name can have duplicates.
2- I have to use address1 as the official customer
name

Can someone please answer the original question on
what is the purpose of customer-number in sql-ledger?
