SWISH-E 2.4.4, Solaris 5.8, all tests fail

I'm trying to compile 2.4.4 ( Solaris ), but all tests fail:

> cd tests
> ../src/swish-e -c test.config -i . -T indexed_words
err: Swish aborted with non-negative lasterror
.

Where do I have to search first?
