Syncato 0.7 on 10.3.2 - wit's end (long)

Ah. I have managed to get Syncato running on Jaguar (using a
built-from-scratch Python 2.3.2, framework install), but I'm at wit's
end trying to get things working on Panther (10.3.2), either using
Apple's Python or built-from-scratch Python 2.3.3, just using the
file-based storage.
Other details:
- libxml2-2.5.11
- libxslt-1.0.33
PackageManager includes support for libxml2-2.5.4, but I've been using
2.5.11/1.0.33 on Jaguar.
The symptoms are bizarre: the libxml2/libxslt scripts seem to work, but
Syncato itself consistently gives an error that looks like a problem
with the Python-based extension functions:

> xpathError: xmlXPathEval() failed
The "Admin" URL times out; no error, and Webware just seems to be
spinning.
(Numerous iterations with libxml2-2.6.4/libxslt-1.1.2 and the Pythons
didn't produce any other successes.)
Sick children have limited my debugging time; I'm hoping I can find out
what combinations *have* worked for folks trying to run Syncato on
Panther?
Thanks!
Roger
