queries not working correctly

I installed syncato behind the firewall for a personal work log. I tried 
running some xpath queries against it and they don't seem to work as 
planned. I then tried similar queries against my recently upgraded 
public weblog and they don't seem to work there either.

Example:

http://localhost/WK/blog//p

Should yield all paragraphs. It gives me
<results></results>

Yet

http://localhost/WK/blog/description/p

gives me a series of results. It seems the "//" is
not working properly somehow.

Any ideas?

PS the localhost install is just a stock syncato from
cvs.
