I too have been stymied in conference sessions where I couldn't even work out what the paper was about, let alone if it was applicable to me or not. Having worked in academia for 7 years, and business for 3, there is, and always has been a way to collaborate, Fund a project. It doesn't have to be big, you just need to find a research department with similar interests to yours. Whilst I don't agree that research departments are necessarily "looking for things to research" or that they have spare time and resources, but I imagine most could do with a little extra cash. Almost all of the work I used to do was funded by Apple, Oracle, Nortel etc, and where possible, anyone on the teams who wanted to publish a paper could. tom -- tom smith http://www.othermedia.com/blog/ 0207 089 5959 3rd Floor, The Pavilion, Newham's Row, London SE1 3UZ -------------------------------------------------------------- POSTINGS (in plain text): [email protected] SUBSCRIPTION CHANGES: http://lists.syntagm.co.uk (or send email to mailto:[email protected]) --------------------------------------------------------------
