I think you've precisely capture the attitude of a responsible designer.

Knowing for the reasons already discussed, that the designs you've created
might not be perfect but having a plan to make sure you can inform the
design at a later date.

Whilst I'm sure that this attitude isn't uncommon in the design arena, it's
refreshing to hear such a pragmatic approach.
