The point is to hide alt text (ant tool-tips) from images that are *not* links, therefore, *useless* to text only browsers. I don't use it anymore, as said. But I do it in the back-end. It does *not* validate as XHTML. *And* I hate having to use alt text in some of the images because, when title is missing, they *do* show as a tool-tip. So, sometimes I leave it blank just to be valid. But, again, this is a matter of taste. I don't see any problems with some "non-informative/visual-effect-only/link-less" images having an empty alt attribute so they don't show at all in text only browsers. -- []'s Rodrigo "Vega" Fonseca.
