You're probably right, although I haven't run into anyone who seemed put off
by it--including 'suits' themselves. I expect, though, that it doesn't come
off as tongue-in-cheek when written the way it does f2f.

I'm gonna throw in a vote for 'client' b/c I think it's a shorter term, and
one whose common definition is closer to the comp sci definition. Most of my
uneasiness with 'user agent' stems from the fact that the term is pretty
much meaningless to the layperson.

That said, I've written enough on the topic now and will happily use
whatever term the editing team or the group at large thinks best.
