[MACCAWS] A very belated intro

All,

I never gave myself a proper introduction (and now I see that Dunstan is
trying to find me) so I thought I'd go ahead... (sending to the list and
responding directly to Dunstan)

I'm Jeff, a web developer working in and living near Salt Lake City. (My
company is directly across the street from what was the Olympic Medals
Plaza. For a couple of weeks before the Olympics started as they were
building and testing the plaza with all it's equipment during work hours,
when in phone conferences to clients, we would always have to explain that
the music they could hear in the background was coming from the huge sound
system across the street!)

I work for an e-learning company, which means we do multimedia, web
"application"-type stuff, not just documents with maybe the occasional
rollover. (It makes Section 508 quite interesting).

I'm very interested in standards. I've been trying to get the other
programmers here at work interested too but unfortunately back in the days
of the 4.0 browsers they saw standards as a nice "utopian/pie in the
sky/fairy tail" situation that didn't match reality (which at the time in
terms of browser supports it didn't). They kind of soured on the idea and
now are mostly of the opinion - "Yeah there should be a standard - Microsoft
should take over everything so that we have a standard" (unfortunately some
of the management also seem to be of that opinion).  I've been trying to
convince them that the world really has gotten better. Anyway, so that's my
rant. 

I got interested in standards because of cross-browser headaches (like
everyone else) and because of svg, which I've been involved with for the
last 2 1/2 years or so.

So that's me. (As you can tell, I tend to ramble when writing quickly)

have to include one of those "the opinions expressed in this email do not
reflect company policy, etc. etc. yada yada" taglines.
