In so far as we see the adoption of standards as bringing these
advantages, then they're significant advatanges.  But in some ways, we
are trading one for another.  I'm interested to see the working docs for
xhtml 2.0, which are due any day...

Interesting about the backwards compatibility:

" August 2002: The HTML Working Group has released the first public
Working Draft of XHTML 2.0. XHTML 2.0 is a relative of the Web's
familiar publishing languages, HTML 4 and XHTML 1.0 and 1.1, and is not
intended to be backward compatible with them. "
