[MACCAWS] background color and validation

Hi all,

a conundrum.

I'm trying to build a site that validates to xhtml1.0 strict and
degrades without stylesheets.

I'd like the non stylesheet viewer to see black text on a white
background, but if I set the xhtml body element by using attributes
bgcolor and text it doesn't validate.

Is there a way?

or do I accept that the non stylesheet viewer gets his own text and
background settings?
