Hi all,

please could someone examine these error message?

Cannot open bayes databases /home/macmewes/.spamassassin/bayes_* R/O: tie
failed:
Cannot open bayes databases /home/macmewes/.spamassassin/bayes_* R/W: tie
failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
1 message(s) examined.

Recently I have installed SA 3.0 on my machine and filtering seems to run
OK. Anyway if a user selectes a message in Usermin to be reported to SA,
this error comes up.

The complete ~./spamassassin directory is completely owned by the user with

macmewes@ds217-115-144-166:~/.spamassassin$ ll
insgesamt 5304
drwxr-xr-x 2 macmewes macmewes 4096 2004-10-08 10:25 ./
drwxr-xr-x 20 macmewes macmewes 4096 2004-10-08 10:00 ../
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 12288 2004-10-08 10:18 auto-whitelist
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 81148 2004-10-07 09:27 bayes_journal
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 1298432 2004-10-07 09:24 bayes_seen
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 4444160 2004-10-07 09:24 bayes_toks
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 1746 2004-10-08 10:12 user_prefs

If I would delete the bayes_* then the next time spam is processed those
files would be created as

macmewes@ds217-115-144-166:~/.spamassassin$ ll
insgesamt 5304
drwxr-xr-x 2 macmewes macmewes 4096 2004-10-08 10:25 ./
drwxr-xr-x 20 macmewes macmewes 4096 2004-10-08 10:00 ../
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 12288 2004-10-08 10:18 auto-whitelist
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 81148 2004-10-07 09:27 bayes_journal
-rw------- 1 root mail 1298432 2004-10-07 09:24 bayes_seen
-rw------- 1 root mail 4444160 2004-10-07 09:24 bayes_toks
-rw------- 1 macmewes macmewes 1746 2004-10-08 10:12 user_prefs

Which makes them unrenderable for the Usermin-User if he is not in the group
"mail". So in addition to this the SA-Module should check the permissions
and "chown" them back. Any hints?

bis dahin - kind regards

Martin Mewes
