Found it.

Sorry for spamming this group, but maybe someome else will run into this 
at some point.

The problem was that on the SLAVE server, the SSL encryptions that were 
refused/rejected, left very few choices to get a working SSL connection 
going.

Once I opened up a few of them, after looking at the other slaves, it 
started working.
