I use Webmin's software update module mainly because in my Ubuntu 16.04.1 system I have quite a bit of software from PPAs. This morning there was an update to wine from 2.0~rc3~ubuntu16.04.1 to 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1. The module output shows wine being downloaded Installing package(s) with command apt-get -y install wine-devel wine- devel-amd64 wine-devel-i386 wine-staging wine-staging-amd64 wine- staging-i386 winehq-devel .. Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following packages will be upgraded: wine-devel wine-devel-amd64 wine-devel-i386:i386 wine-staging wine-staging-amd64 wine-staging-i386:i386 winehq-devel 7 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 97.8 MB of archives. After this operation, 30.7 kB of additional disk space will be used. Get:1 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 winehq-devel amd64 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [1980 B] Get:2 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 wine-devel amd64 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [1083 kB] Get:3 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 wine-devel-amd64 amd64 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [23.5 MB] Get:4 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main i386 wine-devel-i386 i386 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [22.6 MB] Get:5 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 wine-staging amd64 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [2749 kB] Get:6 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 wine-staging-amd64 amd64 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [24.5 MB] Get:7 http://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial/main i386 wine-staging-i386 i386 2.0~rc4~ubuntu16.04.1 [23.4 MB] That's the last of the output. I'm used to seeing where after the package(s) are downloaded that it continues on unpacking and overwriting the previous version of the package. Checking the current version of wine shows however that it was upgraded. chris@localhost:~$ wine --version wine-2.0-rc4 I have the most current version of Webmin installed chris@localhost:~$ apt-cache policy webmin webmin: Installed: 1.831 Candidate: 1.831 Version table: *** 1.831 100 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status System is Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release: 16.04 Codename: xenial I honestly don't remember when Wine was updated the last time whether this was the same behavior or not.
