Moving a bunch of virtualhost around lately, I ran across one email account that had 80,000 emails in the trash. Since, I found a number of accounts with 20, 30, 40,000 in the trash. So, I went back to look at Mailbox Cleanup again. I wouldn't want to ever delete any messages from a clients Inbox unless they requested it... but trash? I have run a dovecot script to delete spam from spam folders. Anyway... my thought! It would be great if Mailbox cleanup had a function to delete messages older than X number for days from <a list of email folder taken from a list that I generated>. I could add trash, Trash, Deleted Messages, Deleted Items and on and on it goes. I guess the only tricky part would be INBOX.Trash and INBOX.trash and INBOX.Deleted Messages... but I could most likely find them to add. So, far today, I deleted about 30 GB of trash from clients email boxes after asking them if it was alright. I would be happy to make an announcement that we are going to do this. Yeah, some versions of Outlook hide 'purge' and I doubt most end users even know what purge means. Heck, the one with 80K messages uses SquirrelMail and purge is right there in your face? Go figure.
