I fully agree with Dave on this.

We had few heavy load monster applications that were working happily 
for months (even no need for daly restart). Now they got company (apps 
written by another team) and the headaches stared.


Here my question. When we get this IOException, what can we do 
(rebooting is not an answer :-) I know the right answer ("fix the new 
apps"), but this is beyond our control - so I am asking for a 
workaround.
