Sorry, you've got me there.  I can't remember why I have this flag.  
Someone must have recommended it when I started using MySQL a few years 
ago and I have kept using it ever since.  The documentation pointed out 
by Kieran says it is "only useful using WebObjects", but doesn't 
describe that use.
