It seams that this is a VM problem. I did play with Java 1.3 and 1.4 on 
both MacOSX 10.2.x and Solaris. I hit this problem on all installation, 
but on a different places (more or less randomly). It seams VM just do 
not care to release file handles....

The side effect of hitting the GC manually is 5% slower apps (in my 
particular case). But this is very small price I have to pay. After 
doing so our apps (most of them really complex - something like 150 
entities, 100k lines of source) run without restart for months. This is 
a banking application and the load is significant (4th or 5th largest 
dutch bank).

BTW, I do not blame WO for this. I am able to mimic the same problem 
with j2ee app running on JBoss. Send your complains to Mr. Gosling.... 
and file a radar enhancement request to have WO6 in ObjC

P.S. I wonder what will be the overall performance hit if WO kicks the 
GC after every Request-Response loop... any thought?
