While I technically have not done it on Linux, I have done it on
FreeBSD and Solaris 10 x86. Be aware that the default directory
layout for Solaris/Linux/BSD etc is different than OS X S. In other
words, there is no /Library, /System/Library, etc on Linux...

When I moved 5.3 to my FreeBSD/Solaris system (the WO dirs are shared
amongst FreeBSD and Solaris through NFS so I have one install that is
shared) I recreated the Solaris 5.1/5.2 directory structure and then
moved all the appropriate files into their appropriate place from OS
X... YMMV

I have never followed any writeup from the net on making it work --
it basically has always just worked as long as NEXT_ROOT is set
appropriately.
